About the Firm
Focusing on What Matters
Your loved ones. Your wishes and goals. Your future.
The Law Office of Amy Kuronen, PLLC, focuses on Estate Planning, Probate and Family Law.
Solid planning and effective legal representation in these areas will benefit you – and those whom you care most about – both now and for years well into the future.
Estate Planning and Probate
Planning to Achieve Your Goals
Careful planning assures that your wishes will be carried out, in the way that you think best.
Simply defined, “estate planning” is arranging for the orderly transfer of your property, following your death, to the people or organizations that you designate. It includes distributing your financial assets and identifying the people you want to handle your estate. Depending on your circumstances, estate planning may involve selecting a guardian for your children, establishing techniques for probate avoidance, and strategizing to protect your assets and minimize taxes.
Estate planning also includes setting up directions for handling your finances and making decisions regarding your medical care in the event that, due to accident or illness, you become unable to do so.
Client situations are unique. Estate planning options are numerous and, at times, complex. To develop a customized estate plan appropriate for you, we will discuss your circumstances, needs, and wishes. After thoroughly reviewing the various options, I will recommend a plan and draft the documents necessary to achieve your goals.
Probate & Trust Administration
Efficient legal representation eases the burden of estate administration.
After someone passes away, certain legal steps must be followed to transfer assets and to otherwise wind up the person’s affairs. If you have been named as a Personal Representative, you may be unsure of what, exactly, you’re supposed to do to probate the estate.
From filing the initial paperwork to closing the estate, I am available to help you administer an estate of any size or complexity. I will represent you with diligence, efficiency and compassion.

Preparing for Your Future
When your circumstances are shifting, solid legal counsel helps you move forward.
Clients seeking an attorney for a Family Law matter are often facing significant life changes, many of which have long-range financial implications. With competent legal advice, you will recognize the future ramifications of decisions made today.
Many Family Law issues can be resolved outside of the courtroom. To save clients both time and money, I will recommend and pursue mediation or other alternative dispute resolution whenever appropriate. In contested Family Law cases, I will advocate strongly for your position. My goal is to provide you with resolution and the certainty that you have achieved a strong legal position – a solid foundation on which to build your future.

Commitments to My Clients
Competence, Value, and Exceptional Service
You have many choices when you hire a lawyer. Be choosy. I welcome your high expectations.
The attorney representing your interests is key to your overall satisfaction with the resolution of your legal issue. You should be confident that the attorney you hire has the required skills to handle your particular concerns. The attorney should clearly explain the fees for handling your file.
In addition, consider the quality of customer service that the firm offers.
Exceptional client service is a distinguishing feature of my law firm. I greatly value my clients and the trust that they place in me. My commitment to exceptional client service – every day, for every client – reflects that. I offer complimentary, half-hour consultations so you can see what it would be like to work with me.
Once retained, I make the following commitments:
By concentrating my practice on Estate Planning, Probate, and Family Law, I remain knowledgable about relevant trends in these areas of the law. I can also leverage my professional experience, skills and interests to effectively represent clients. If you have questions about another area of the law, I would be pleased to refer you to a colleague.
Current technology provides small law firms with access to various resources and services which, even ten years ago, were cost-effective only for larger law practices. By using technological advances, I am able to offer efficient, high quality legal services at a reasonable charge.
You want an attorney who really listens and who understands your concerns. You want answers to your legal questions. You want to know about the options available to meet your needs. You want greater certainty and few surprises with the legal process.
In short – you want good communication with your lawyer. When retained, I commit to:
- Discuss your concerns thoroughly
- Respond to your questions in a prompt manner
- Identify your goals with specificity
- Explain legal procedures and timing
- Describe the pros and cons of available alternatives
- Provide regular updates
Convenience and Flexibility
I work with clients throughout northeastern Minnesota – Duluth, Hermantown, Proctor, Cloquet, Esko, Carlton, Two Harbors, and Silver Bay. My office is located in the Alworth Building in downtown Duluth, with skywalk access to nearby parking. I am also pleased to offer home, hospital and nursing home appointments for clients unable to come in to the office.
Evening and weekend appointments are available to accommodate your schedule.
I have enjoyed 20+ years of serving clients.
A Minnesota native, I moved north and settled, happily, in Duluth following law school graduation in 1993. I practiced law for 13 years, first with a local firm and then with the Civil Division of the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office. My practice was in civil matters exclusively, with a focus on contract negotiation and employment litigation.
In early 2007, I received an opportunity which changed the course of my career, and, ultimately, led me to form my law practice. I joined The Private Client Group (commonly referred to as the “Trust Department”) of U.S. Bank, N.A. as a Personal Trust Relationship Manager (or “Trust Officer”). In 2008, I was promoted to the Managing Director role. I held this position until December 2013, managing a staff of 11 and overseeing the operations of the Private Client Group.
During this period, I earned the Certified Financial Planner(r) designation to increase my understanding of investments, tax issues, and other personal financial matters. I also served on the bank’s Personal Trust Management Committee, resolving complex fiduciary questions.
On a daily basis, I worked closely with individual clients, helping manage their assets and addressing their various financial needs. The clients were at different stages of their lives and they had different goals – saving for college, preparing for retirement, moving on after divorce, leaving a legacy for loved ones. Working with clients at all these stages, I saw how careful planning accomplished their various goals.
At the bank, my primary role was interpreting and administering the plans that other professionals had created. With time and experience, I realized that I wanted to be on the creating side.
And, with that recognition, I formed my law practice.
Now, I work with clients to define, plan and achieve their vision of the future – both for themselves and for their loved ones.
